team
Director
James started his apprenticeship back when he was 19 at a local commercial construction company. He was there for 10 years, having his last 5 years as a site manager. In this role, he organised all site requirements, including materials, budgets, and team.
Then we went out on our own and started J&N, and why? We're both ambitious and for some reason love to find new challenges.
He likes the direction in which we are heading as a team. He finds it exciting that we are working on some super high-quality projects and our team is always learning new ways to build better. James still gets pumped for work and is always proud of the work our team produces. He enjoys physical work and being outside (especially in summer)! Most of all, we have such a great team and enjoy each other's company. James values spending time with our apprentices, too; it always makes us both proud to see them doing well.
Having the capability to discuss the successes and challenges of managing a business together enables us to reward our efforts when we can.
Honesty - I appreciate honesty. I rarely would take offence to anything if it's genuine and do my best to return that to others.
Compassion - I'd like to think I am compassionate, and I respect this in other people.
Humour - Don't take yourself too seriously... I love to have a laugh and happy to do it at my own expense. Having a business will make you laugh or cry, I try to avoid the 2nd option wherever I can.
Curiosity - Some of the best ideas and results come from the people who ask questions. Ask the 'dumb' questions and don't pretend you know everything is my advice.
Our families are fairly spread between Western Australia, Tassie and New Zealand. Our Dad’s are both here in Tassie, so we spend the most time with them, and of course our dog Charlie!
I've had a couple of big spills on motorbikes and sport over the years... 5 broken arms, two broken collar bones, broken ankle, ribs twice, smashed up face and 3 teeth knocked out plus plenty of stitches...
I don't read books, I much prefer Audiobooks because I do a lot of driving and can take it all in when we are on planes too. Especially when they are read by the author. 3 is too hard, and you can never have too many book tips... Here's 6 of my Fav's:
1. Letter to a Christian nation (Sam Harris)
2. Can't Hurt Me (David Goggins)
3. The Diary of a CEO (Steven Bartlett)
4. Peaks and Valleys / Who moved my cheese? (Both by Spencer Johnson)
5. Greenlights (Matthew McConaughey)
6. Like a Virgin (Richard Branson)
